Rotary Club of Brunswick donates 100 oak trees to Merri-bek

To commemorate the milestone of 100 years of service within the community, the Rotary Club of Brunswick Tullamarine has donated 100 Oak trees to Council.

Celebrated at a special ceremony at Brunswick Park recently, the trees will be planted throughout Brunswick Central Parklands precinct over the next two years.

Increasing tree canopy in the city is one of Merri-bek’s strategies to tackle climate change. The donation of these beautiful trees will contribute to Council’s vision of doubling public tree canopy by 2050.

Mayor Cr Annalivia Carli Hannan said, “placing these trees throughout our parks will leave a green legacy for the community for generations to come”.

“The Rotary Club of Brunswick Tullamarine has a special link to the Brunswick Parklands, they held many meetings over the years in the Brunswick Sports Club building”, Cr Hannan said.

“These trees from the Rotary club will provide an especially beautiful legacy as they grow together throughout these parks and they will be an icon for the area well into the future”.

Moreland values the important contribution of trees and vegetation in making the municipality a vibrant place to live, work and visit; and is committed to protecting, enhancing and managing our urban forest into the future.

Our Open Space team will plant 40 trees at Brunswick Park, Reaburn Reserve, A. G. Gillon Oval and Clifton Park this year. 60 trees will be planted next year with their placement to feature in the upcoming Master Plan for the Brunswick Central Parklands precinct.
