Revitalising Multicultural Business Precincts in Merri-bek

21 Apr 2026

Work to upgrade two much-loved multicultural business precincts in Merri-bek will soon begin at Victoria Mall, Coburg and Morgan Court, Glenroy.

Funded through two grants from the Victorian Government’s Multicultural Business Precinct Revitalisation Program, works will support the revitalisation of these precincts to help boost local businesses.

Loved by locals and visitors for its multicultural cafes, diverse food and its lively street scene, Victoria Mall will see improvements to shop fronts and lighting. Traders will receive new umbrellas for outdoor tables. There will also be a dedicated outdoor performer and busking station to enhance this well-known and loved area.

Known for its local Nepalese traders and residents who have created a space that is quickly becoming known as the ‘Little Nepal’ of Melbourne, Morgan Court in Glenroy will also see improvements including new lighting and a new mural.

These improvement projects to revitalise two important multicultural business precincts within Merri-bek are supported through grants of $153,784 and $103,800 from the Victorian Government through Business Victoria. The grants will be complemented by a further $65,000 from Council.

Merri-bek City Council Mayor Nat Abboud welcomed the two improvement projects, which she said would complement work Council is already doing to revitalise central Coburg and Glenroy.

“We welcome this investment from Business Victoria and look forward to seeing these two important neighbourhoods going from strength to strength,” she said.

“Our local businesses contribute to our thriving economy, creating jobs and opportunities in our communities.”

Council is moving forward with plans to improve the space in Victoria Mall, Coburg in partnership with the Central Coburg Business Association and at Morgan Court in partnership with the recently formed Glenroy Nepalese traders’ network.
