Public Notice: the naming poll has been extended

30 May 2024

We're re-opening the poll to vote for your preferred name for the new cultural and community hub that's under construction on Saxon Street, Brunswick.

Earlier this year we asked you to vote for your preferred name for the new hub - thank you to everyone who voted in March and April 2024.

At the May Council meeting, Council decided to re-open the voting for another 6 weeks to give the community more time to vote.

Voting has been extended until 5pm Thursday 18 July 2024. Visit Conversations Merri-bek to vote for your preferred name.  One vote per household please.

If you voted the first time, your vote still counts, and you don't need to vote again.

Council has approved 6 names for the voting poll:

  • Balam Balam Arts Centre - meaning 'butterfly' in Woi-wurrung language
  • Brunswick Arts Hub - the geographical location of the new hub
  • Brunswick Arts Precinct - the geographical location of the new hub
  • Doleen Arts Hub - meaning 'pride' in Woi-wurrung language
  • Dorrong Arts Precinct - meaning 'heart' in Woi-wurrung language
  • Leonard French Arts Hub - commemorative name (Brunswick-born artist).
