Special Council Meeting to consider renaming request

Moreland City Council will hold a Special Council Meeting at 7pm on Monday 13 December 2021.  

Council will consider an officer report outlining recommendations for progressing the renaming request. The report is available to read on Council’s website.

The Special Council Meeting will be held online and livestreamed via the Merri-bek City Council Facebook page and website. 

The report and Special Council meeting are in response to a request from Elders from the Traditional Owner community and other community representatives to rename the Merri-bek local government area. Information was presented to Council showing that the land, which was sold without the permission of the traditional owners, was called ‘Moreland’ after a Jamaican slave estate.
