I would like to join the library

You can join Merri-bek Libraries for free. Membership is open to all Victorian residents. Library membership gives you access to borrow books, magazines, CDs, DVDs, eBooks and online learning.

When you join you will receive a library membership card with your name and barcode. You can use your library card to borrow, renew or reserve items. You can also use computers at any Merri-bek library.

How to join the library online

You can join the library online by visiting our library catalogue and clicking the "Join online" link at the top of the page. After you read and accept the membership conditions, you can complete the online form. If you are under 18, you will also need a parent or guardian to act as a guarantor and complete these details on the membership form.

After you complete the form, you will get a temporary ID you can use to place reserves on library items. You will need to visit one of the Merri-bek Libraries to complete your membership and receive your library card. Alternatively, if you would like to have your card posted to you, please make sure you complete the details under "Mailing address" in the membership form and tick the box next to "Post my card". Please be aware that cards sent in the mail will take over a week to arrive.

Visit a library to join

Visit a Merri-bek library with proof of address (e.g. driver’s license, health care card, rates notice).
Ask the staff for a Membership form. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must sign the form, which includes application to use the internet at our libraries.
We will give you a membership card and you can borrow from Merri-bek Library immediately.

My membership card has expired

Library memberships automatically expire three years after joining. Once your membership expires, you will need to contact us to renew your membership. We can update your membership after we have verified that your details are up-to-date either in person or over the phone.

I have lost my library card

Report lost cards by contacting your local library. We will then cancel your card. You will need to pay $3.20 for a new replacement card and visit a Merri-bek library with identification that has proof of address.
