Relevant rates are listed on the individual venue pages.
Community rates are available to eligible artist groups, collectives and individuals, under Category D**.
Category-D (This is a six month trial from January to June 2025)
Artist Groups, Collectives and individuals - Receive minimal or no funding to run non-commercial, arts-based activities or programs. This includes rehearsals, free workshops, non-paid networking or professional development.
Artist group - refers to a group/organisation of people engaged in art activities that provide community benefit. Does not charge an entry or participation fee and does not generate any direct income from venue hire.
Artist collective - refers to an intentional group of artists collaborating on art projects of a non-commercial nature. The collective does not charge membership fees or subscriptions fees to its members. Does not generate any direct income from venue hire.
Artist individual - refers to an individual engaged in an artistic activity or program. Does not generate any direct income from venue hire.
Please note- Bookings can be made for a maximum of a school term.
- The minimum booking time required to process artist venue hires is 10 days.
- ** This is a six month trial from January to June 2025.
Materials and Equipment
- All materials and equipment belonging to the hirer must be removed by the end of each booking, daily. Council will not be accountable for items left behind.
- Any materials used for art activities or programs must be stated by the Applicant on the application form and approved by Merri-bek City Council prior to use.

Brunswick Mechanics Institute: 270 Sydney Road, Brunswick
A space for rehearsals and creative developments.

Brunswick Mechanics Institute is currently managed by Next Wave to present an annual program of artist-led activities.
The venue can also be hired by artists, creative practitioners and cultural organisations for creative development including rehearsals, workshops, script development, filming and artist talks.
This is an accessible venue with two spaces available to hire:
The Studio: a flexible, large bright room with hardwood floors, white walls, high ceilings and four large windows.
The Theatre: a traditional black box theatre with a simple tech setup and optional seating bank that seats 110.
Next Wave offers flexible and affordable venue hire options for artists, creative practitioners and cultural organisations looking for space to experiment, play and collaborate.

233 Sydney Road, Brunswick, inside the Brunswick Town Hall.
The building is near the corner of the Sydney Road and Dawson Street intersection. Enter through glass sliding doors on Sydney Road. The Gallery is to the left of the Brunswick Customer Service Centre.
The Counihan Gallery In Brunswick is our art gallery. It is open to the public and it's focus is on presenting contemporary art exhibitions.
The gallery is accessible by wheelchair and has accessible bathrooms.

Parking
There is a public car park on Dawson Street with time restrictions. Parking spaces may not be available at all times. There is a limit to street parking and it is subject to restrictions.
There is one disabled car space out the front of the gallery. This car park is part of clearway tow-away zone from 4pm to 6pm daily.

120 Glenroy Rd, Glenroy, at the rear of Glenroy College on the corner of Melbourne Ave and Cardinal Rd, Glenroy.
The Glenroy College Performing Arts Centre (PAC) has been refurbished and can seat up to 600 people. Their flexible seating means the centre is also suitable for standing events and exhibitions. It includes a stage area with curtains and state of the art sound and lighting systems. There is also a foyer, a well-equipped kitchen and backstage areas.
