Expressions of interest are now open for the 2026 Democracy Lab

Democracy Lab is an award winning 12-week program designed to equip individuals with the skills, knowledge, and connections necessary to deepen their engagement with community life at Merri-bek.
The Lab supports people with ideas for community-led initiatives or who want to build connections in Merri-bek. We especially encourage people who are new to community-led work.

Participation in the Lab is FREE and open to anyone who lives, works or studies in Merri-bek.
The program topics include:
- Identifying community needs and designing community-led projects
- Building support and maintaining momentum for community initiatives
- Identifying stakeholders and establishing collaborative relationships
- Understanding Council decision-making processes and pathways for community influence
- Strategies for advocating on important community issues
