Support for communities affected by flooding in Nepal

03 Sep 2026

The severe flooding in Nepal has caused devastating loss of life, damage and disruption across affected communities.

Our thoughts are with everyone impacted, including people in Merri-bek who may be worried about family, friends, colleagues and communities in Nepal.

Merri-bek is home to a significant Nepali community, including residents, local organisations and Council staff. For many people, this may be an especially difficult and distressing time as they wait for news, support loved ones from afar or worry about the impact on their communities.

We have reached out to local community leaders and organisations to understand how we can best support the community at this time.

We encourage everyone to approach conversations about the floods with kindness, patience and understanding, particularly when supporting people who may be directly affected.

How you can help
If you would like to support communities affected by the floods, the Australian Government and Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) recommend that Australians wishing to donate visit Emergency Action Alliance, which is coordinating support through Australian aid organisations.
