Carers in Merri-bek

Being a carer is both rewarding and demanding, with it requiring significant time and dedication. We believe it’s important to prioritise the health and well-being of carers in our community.

Support for Carers

  • The Support for Carers program run by Merri-bek City Council recognises the important role carers play in supporting family members, friends and loved ones.

The program provides practical support to help carers maintain their own health, wellbeing and resilience while continuing in their caring role.

Support is tailored to individual needs and may include information, referrals, wellbeing activities, peer support and opportunities to connect with other carers.

To access this program, the person you care for must live in Merri-bek. You'll also need to show that you are their carer, such as providing proof that you receive a Carers Allowance Payment or other evidence.

Call 9240 1111 or email carersupport@merri-bek.vic.gov.au to find out more or apply.

  • Save on everyday expenses and enjoy special discounts with a Seniors Card or a Victorian Carers Card.

These cards offer cheaper public transport fares and exclusive deals at businesses and venues across our community.

If you are a carer, you can get a Victorian Carers Card. This card will give you discounts on services such as local aquatic, sporting, recreation and even some performing arts venues. This includes all Merri-bek leisure centres and pools.

You can check if you are eligible and then complete the Victorian Carer Card application form.

For more information visit the Victorian Carer Card website or call the Information Line on 1800 901 958.

  • Designed to support carers who look after those with significant and permanent disability, The Companion Card provides access to community activities and venues.

In Merri-bek, the Companion Card ensures that carers accompanying eligible individuals can attend events, activities, and public venues for free.

This initiative aims to make local services and leisure more accessible and inclusive for everyone.

For more information about eligibility and where and how to use it, visit the Victorian Companion Card Website.
