Hidden Disabilities

People with a hidden disability

Merri-bek Council is proud to launch the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower program as part of our Disability Access and Inclusion Plan 2022–26 (PDF 6Mb)

What are hidden disabilities?

Invisible (or hidden) disabilities are conditions that are not obvious to others. While some disabilities are visible, most are not. Examples include:

  • Autism or ADHD
  • Hearing or vision impairment
  • Anxiety or depression
  • Dementia
  • Chronic pain or fatigue
  • Learning disabilities

By wearing a Sunflower badge, lanyard, or wristband, you can discreetly show that you have a hidden disability.

People without a hidden disability can also wear a Sunflower product to show support. Wearing a Sunflower product is voluntary and free.

text reads: Proud to support the Sunflower for individuals with hidden disabilities. A logo with a yellow sunflower in a circle of green is beside this text.

You can collect your free Sunflower products at:

  • Council Customer Service Centres (Brunswick, Coburg, Glenroy)
