Glass recycling bin or drop-off

What can go in your glass recycling bin or drop-off point

Put your glass recycling in the bin loose, not in bags.

Glass bottles and jars must be empty and should be lightly rinsed.

Remove lids from all jars and bottles - these should be placed in your general rubbish bin

No need to remove labels from bottles and jars.

Glass no longer belongs in your mixed recycling bin.

Please put only these items in your glass recycling bin or drop-off point:

  • Glass bottles including beer, wine and olive oil bottles
  • Glass jars including pasta sauce and condiment jars
  • Glass bottles and jars for medicine or toiletries

What can't go in your glass recycling bin or drop-off point?

Thank you for keeping these items out of your glass recycling bin and drop-off point:

  • Loose lids and caps from bottles or jars
  • Corks
  • Pumps, sprays, droppers
  • Crockery such as plates, dishes and mugs
  • Drinking glasses and glass cookware
  • Vases
  • Light bulbs
  • Plastic bags or packaging
  • Cardboard
  • Liquids

Not sure how to dispose of a particular item? Look it up in our A-Z guide to waste and recycling.

  • Broken glass jars or bottles can be put in your glass recycling bin. It is fine if your glass bottle or jar breaks when you place it into the bin.

Only put glass bottles and jars in your glass recycling bin.

All other glass goes in your general rubbish bin. This includes broken drinking glasses, windows, mirrors, vases, glass cooking dishes and perfume bottles.

  • Broken glass makes other items like cardboard, paper and plastic hard to recycle. By putting your glass bottles and jars in a separate bin, instead of the mixed recycling bin, more of it can be recycled into new things.

  • Different types of glass have different melting points, so we can't recycle different types of glass together.

Only put glass bottles and jars in your glass recycling bin.

All other glass goes in your general rubbish bin. This includes broken drinking glasses, windows, mirrors, vases, glass cooking dishes and perfume bottles.
