The information on this page is only from Glenroy and Gowanbrae projects that started before we were using Conversations Merri-bek, or projects that didn't require community input to be completed.

Glenroy

2020 to 2021 completed projects

• Morgan Court, Glenroy - installation of public shade structures

  In 2020 we completed the installation of new public shade structures in Morgan Court, Glenroy. This was in response to community feedback. These shade structures also not only provide additional shade and amenity, they also include an integrated lighting system to improve ambience and safety at night.

  We also made adjustments to the existing concrete seating, improved pedestrian circulation, made changes to provide more usable space for smaller events and activities, and installed a new drinking and water refilling station.

  The design was completed in December 2019, and construction was completed between March 2020 to June 2020.

• Belair Avenue Park

  We completed the works at Belair Avenue Park in June 2020.

  Key dates:

  • Glenroy College students provided artwork as input: November 2020
  • Tendering to appoint street artist: November to December 2020:
  • Street artist completed artwork: June 2021.

  Since then we have gained further funding for street art on the back of the toilet block, facing the reserve. This art was in our original concept design for the park.

  An artist has since been appointed who has developed artwork in collaboration with Glenroy College students. This work has now completed.

  

  

2019 to 2021 completed projects

• Becket Street North and Muntz Avenue, Glenroy – road reconstruction works

  In 2019 we completed construction on Becket Street North and Muntz Avenue, Glenroy between Pecham Street and Gervase Avenue. The budget for this project was $440,000, and construction was completed between July and October in 2019.

  The works included :

  • Construction of a new underground drainage system and pits
  • Reconstructing the existing concrete kerb and channel
  • Reconstructing the existing road pavement
  • Laying of a new asphalt road surface
  • Reconstruction of vehicle crossings between the new kerb and footpath edge
  • Reinstatement of nature strips
• Westbreen Creek, Glenroy - conservation and development plan

  In 2019 we endorsed the Westbreen Creek Conservation and Development Plan. The area of work starts at the Northern Golf Course and ends where the creek joins the Moonee Ponds Creek. This plan will also affect KW Joyce Reserve, Gavin Park, Austin Crescent Reserve and Payne Reserve.

  This plan will protect and enhance existing environmental and heritage values. We also wish to plan for park and amenity upgrades to improve public access and enjoyment of the space. We worked with many stakeholders to prepare this plan. These stakeholders include:

  • Melbourne Water
  • the Northern Golf Course
  • Pascoe Vale Girls College
  • Friends of Moonee Ponds Creek

  Although we endorsed this plan in 2019, the size of this project means that it will take about a decade to complete. We plan to apply for external grant funding to assist in delivering the plan.

2018 to 2019 completed projects

• Glenroy Skate Park - landscape plan implementation

  In 2018 we finished the Glenroy Skate Park and made some additions to the area around it. Our landscape plan added a ping pong table, climbing wall, walking paths and extra seating. It also added more trees and a new car park. We did not end up installing outdoor fitness equipment for this project. We will look at future funding opportunities to add this equipment.

  On the site we also built a new resting spot celebrating 100 years of Lions International. We worked with the Glenroy Lions Club to install a new seat and drinking fountain. We would like to thank the Lions Club of Glenroy assisting with this and for all they do for our community. For the skate park details see the documents below.

• Pascoe Vale Road, Glenroy - streetscape improvements

  In 2018 we completed streetscape improvements on Pascoe Vale Road in Glenroy. The streetscape improvement was part of our commitment to improving local retail precincts throughout Merri-bek. The budget for stage 4 of this project was $1,270,000. Stage one of construction began in May 2016 and Stage 4 was completed in May 2018.

  The upgrade consisted of:

  • upgrading the footpath surface with new concrete pavers
  • installing raised pedestrian crossings at key side streets
  • the construction of water sensitive rain gardens to treat runoff from the streets.
• Tudor Street, Glenroy - road reconstruction works

  In 2018 we completed road reconstruction on Tudor Street, Glenroy between Waterloo Road and Plumpton Avenue. The project had a budget of $500,000 and construction was between February 2018 and May 2018.

  The works included:

  • The construction of a new underground drainage system and pits.
  • Reconstructing the existing concrete kerb and channel. The levels have been altered to flatten the road and improve vehicle access into properties.
  • Laying a new asphalt road surface.
  • The reconstruction of vehicle crossings between the new kerb and footpath edge.
  • The reinstatement of nature strips.

Gowanbrae

2020 to 2021 completed projects

• Elms Court, Gowanbrae – construction of a new unisex accessible public toilet

  In 2020 we completed the construction of a new unisex DDA compliant accessible toilet at 5 Elms Court in Gowanbrae. The budget for this project was $155,000 and construction was completed between September 2019 to January 2020.

• Gowanbrae Community Centre and Gowanbrae riverwalk, Gowanbrae - outdoor fitness equipment installation

  In 2020 we installed two sets of outdoor exercise equipment. One set is the Gowanbrae Community Centre on Marigold Crescent, and the other is spread out beside the Moonee Ponds Creek Trail riverwalk. Outdoor fitness equipment is also avaiable for use at the Elms Court parklands in Gowanbrae.

2018 to 2019 - completed projects

• Gowanbrae Riverwalk, Gowanbrae - new public toilet

  In 2018 we built a new public toilet along the Gowanbrae riverwalk beside the Moonee Ponds Creek. The new toilet is unisex and accessible. The toilet is west of the playground along Adelaide Boulevard. We also re-established the plant life in the area once we finished building the toilet.
