Merri-bek has a range of outdoor spaces suitable for festivals and events. Some of the spaces suitable for events are listed below.
To host an event at an outdoor space in Merri-bek, you will need to apply for an event permit. You can find out more about event permits on our Planning an event page.

Location: Jukes Road, Fawkner
Please note: CB Smith Reserve is currently unavailable to book due to the redevelopment of the Fawkner Leisure Centre. Bookings will reopen at the end of 2023.
CB Smith Reserve is centrally located in front of the Fawkner Leisure Centre, Library, Maternal and Child Health Centre and Fawkner Community House.
This outdoor space:
- holds up to 2000 people
- is available to use between 6am and 9pm
- has a playground, barbeques, bocce court and exercise equipment
- is suitable for small events
Power access: No onsite power available
Water: Accessible drinking fountain
Public Toilets: No, however toilets available inside the Fawkner Senior Citizens Hall and Meeting Room.
Parking: There is a public carpark with ample parking off Jukes Road next to the park.

Location: Lake Grove, Coburg North (off Murray Road)
Coburg Lake (on the Murray Road Side) has a large area surrounded by willows overlooking the lake, a stage area with barbecues and a children’s playground.
This outdoor space:
- holds up to 5000 people
- is available to use between 6am and 11pm
- is suitable for barbecues, picnics, weddings, parties and medium to large community events and festivals
- Includes a permanent stage structure and natural amphitheatre
Power access: Three-phase power access from side of stage
Water: Accessible water fountains
Public Toilets: Yes, including accessible toilet
Parking: Public car park off Lake Grove and street parking along Murray Road

Location: 187-195 Gaffney Street, Coburg
Harmony Park is suitable for family events, Christmas parties, and events with children. A small scale festival could be run at this site if the event organiser is willing to bring power to the site.
This outdoor space:
- holds up to 2000 people
- is available to use between 6am and 11pm
- Has free wireless internet for public use
- Includes a children’s playground, rotunda with barbecues and picnic tables, basketball hoop and skate park.
Power access: No onsite power

Public Toilets: Yes, including accessible toilet
Parking: Public carpark off Gaffney Street and street parking available

Location: 40 Harrison Street, Brunswick East
Jones Park has a natural bushland setting and a scenic view of the city. In the southeast corner there is a well-equipped playground, shelter, picnic and barbecue settings with nearby nature play around the wetland and dry creek bed.
This outdoor space:
- holds up to 2000 people
- is available to use between 6am and 11pm
- is ideal for children's parties, family get-togethers and small festivals.
- Includes a basketball hoop, children's playground and barbecue facilities
Power access: Power source available at Harrison St end of Jones Park

Parking: Street parking available along Harrison Street

Location: 30-34 Charles Street, Coburg North
A popular location for events, Richards Reserve is also home to the Coburg Velodrome and a soccer pitch.
This outdoor space:

- is available to use between 6am and 11pm
- is suitable for community festivals and ticketed events
Power access: No onsite power available
Water: Accessible water fountain
Toilets: No toilets at Richards Reserve
Parking: No dedicated carpark, however parking is available on surrounding streets.

Location: Coburg Courtyard
Coburg Courtyard is a 500m2 pop up park where you can hang out and play. This space includes a playful ground mural, planter boxes and temporary seating.
This outdoor space:
- holds up to 1000 people
- available to use between 6am and 9pm (however lighting is not available)
- space includes bench seating and shade structures
- suitable for small events
Power access: Three-phase power available on site
Water: Water tap available with key
Public Toilets: No toilets on site, however public toilets are nearby
Parking: There is ample parking available at Waterfield Street carpark

Location: 43A De Carle Street, Brunswick
Warr Park is a heritage park with playground and nature play area located next to Brunswick Neighbourhood House. The park is suitable for small events including birthday parties.
This outdoor space:
- holds up to 500 people
- is available to use between 6am and 9pm
- ideal for birthday parties
- includes children’s playground, barbeques
- has extensive tree and shrub planting
Power access: No onsite power available
Water: Accessible drinking fountain
Public Toilets: Yes, including an accessible toilet
Parking: Street parking only

Location: Wheatsheaf Road, Glenroy
Bridget Shortell Reserve is located next to the Glenroy Community Hub and is large open space suitable for medium scale events.
This outdoor space:
- Holds up to 2000 people
- Is available between 6am and 9pm
- Is a Grassed flat surface
- Includes a children’s playground and barbeque facilities
Power access: Power source available
Water: Accessible drinking fountain
Public Toilet: Public toilets are located within the Glenroy Community Hub during opening hours.
Parking: There is a public carpark at the Glenroy Community Hub and surrounding street parking. Bike parking is also available.

Location: Albert Street, Brunswick
Gilpin Park offers a natural bush setting ideal for small to medium sized community events. A playground in the north east has table tennis tables, picnic and barbecue facilities.
This outdoor space:
- Holds up to 2500 people
- Is available between 6am and 11pm
- Has a dog park in the south-west of the site
Power access: Three-phase power available onsite
Water: Water tap available
