Preschool activities

Storytime

Storytime is a fun, interactive event for children aged 3 to 5 years. These sessions include songs, rhymes and stories. In 2024 we are running regular Rainbow Family Storytimes. Contact libraryevents@merri-bek.vic.gov.au for details of the next session. 

Storytime session times

Storytime sessions will begin for 2025 on Monday 3 February and are held during school terms on:

  • Monday, 10.30am at Glenroy Library
  • Wednesday, 10:30am at Campbell Turnbull Library
  • Thursday, 11.00am at Brunswick Library
  • Friday, 10.30am at Coburg and Fawkner libraries

Woi-Wurrung storytimes

Learn about Wurundjeri culture, Woi-wurrung language and Dreaming stories through storytelling, dance and song.  

  • Thursday 6 February, 11am - 12.30pm at Brunswick Library
  • Monday 17 Febrary, 10 - 11.30am at Glenroy Library
  • Wednesday 12 March, 9.30 - 11am at Coburg Library
  • Friday 2 May, 10.30am - 12pm at Fawkner Library 
  • Monday 26 May, 10.30 - 11.30am at Glenroy Library for a special Reconciliation Week Storytelling
  • Wednesday 18 June, 9.30 - 11am at Coburg Library
  • Monday 23 June, 10am - 11.30am at Glenory Library
  • Thursday 17th July, 10am - 12pm at Brunswick library (Storytelling and craft as part of the school holiday program)
  • Friday 22 August, 10.30am - 12pm at Fawkner Library
  • Monday 13th October, 10 - 11.30am at Glenroy Library 

Community language storytimes

Community language storytimes are suitable for preschool children and their families. Enjoy songs, stories and craft activities with your child as they develop their language skills and love of reading.

Toddlertime

Toddlertime sessions for 2025 will begin on Monday 3 February and and are held during school terms on:

  • Monday, 10.30am at Coburg Library
  • Tuesday, 10.30am at Glenroy Library
  • Wednesday, 10.00am at Brunswick Library
  • Thursday,  10.30am at Campbell Turnbull Library

Rhymetime

Enjoy a fun-filled session based on music and movement as you and your baby share rhymes and action songs. Rhymetime introduces carers to fun ways to support baby’s physical development and literacy. Rhymetime is for pre-walking (0-18 months) babies and their carers.

Word Play

Let's use our words to play!  Word Play is a free literacy program for families to learn English together and make the most of pre-school play. Learning through play is an important part of pre-school learning and in these relaxed sessions we use books, puppets, puzzles and blocks  to learn together.  Word Play is aimed at pre-school children aged 3-5 years.
