About 'Making it in Merri-bek'

'Making it in Merri-bek' is an annual series of free workshops and discussions for our local arts and creative industry held in May/ June each year.

Facilitated by industry experts, these events will offer opportunities to engage with local artists and their arts practice and receive accessible and useful content for your arts practice and well-being.

2022 Program

This year, Merri-bek City Council has partnered with Next Wave to present 'Making it in Merri-bek'. All events are free, however bookings are essential. 

Here’s what’s on!

  • 'Eat Your Feelings' with Aida Azin
    Participants are invited to explore their gut health through art play.
    Date/Time: Sat 4 Jun, 3pm––6pm
    Location: Brunswick Mechanics, 270 Sydney Road, Brunswick 
  • 'The Power of Community and Vulnerability'

    Join our host Shantel Wetherall and artists Roberta Joy Rich, Ngokia Bunda-Health and Mira Oosterweghel as they consider and discuss self-care and community within collaborative and creative practices.

  • ‘Sustainability in Art’ with Kay Abude

    Join us for a 2-hour workshop with Melbourne based artist Kay Abude at Mood Studios, where we’ll gather for an afternoon of food and conversation to discuss sustainability in art practice.

  • 'Insights into Practice: Embedding Accessibility'

    Join us for a panel discussion with artists Luke Duncan King, Larissa MacFarlane, Gemma Mahadeo who share their learnings and experiences about creating work with access at its core.
