Play Streets and Street Parties are not large-scale community events and should not be open to the general public - if your street event will have over 100 people attending who live on the street, you'll need to apply for an Event Permit.

Neighbour support

When applying for a Play Street or Street Party, you will need to have support from at least 75% of residents on your street.

Street Diagram

You will need to submit a basic diagram, either hand-drawn or digital, of where you are planning to run your event. Council will then review your plan and, if approved, provide you with a permit and official Traffic Management Plan for the road closure.

Risk and Safety Plan

Merri-bek City Council requires a completed Risk and Safety Plan to be submitted to Council prior to your event. Please note: we have provided a draft. The hazards and actions are provided as examples. Your risk discussion should be undertaken by the organisers before the day of the event to identify and plan how to address potential hazards.

Terms and Conditions

Council requires all Play Streets or Street Party organisers to read, understand and abide by the Terms & Conditions outlined for hosting these events.
