Witching Hour (II)

Witching Hour (II) by Heidi Holmes examines the embodied experience of insomnia and the physical symptoms of hormone fluctuation, such as, crawling skin, heart palpitations, anxiety, flushing, and drenching sweats.

Using darkness, light, motion, and illuminated reflections, these works transform the gallery into a space that evokes the spectral quality of dreams and the disquiet of a restless body.

Heidi’s practice focuses on bodily experiences, particularly symptoms that originate internally but manifest outwardly as material. These ‘symptom–materials’ are used to create site-specific, atmospheric installations that reference domestic space, medicine, ageing and feminist theory.

This new installation responds to the conditions of menopause, including perimenopause, hormone-withdrawal menopause and postmenopause, and follows earlier projects shaped by experiences of failed fertility and childlessness.
