K is for Kitab Tabakh

'K is for Kitab Tabakh' is about food, culture and identity. How is culinary identity shaped in multi-cultural Australia?

This year, Deanna Hitti will transform the Counihan Gallery into a 'kitab tabakh' (cookbook), inspired by her mother’s collection of traditional Lebanese family recipes. Hitti's signature large-scale cyanotypes, inspired by lavishly decorated Lebanese table settings, are accompanied by glorious assemblages of objects from her family home.

Hitti’s experience of growing up in two cultures is both a personal one and a collective one. 'K is for Kitab Tabakh' is an exploration of diverse cultural identities in contemporary Australia.
