Ocean Song

Join us for a screening of Southern Blast, a new documentary by Surfrider Foundation about the Southern Sea and how we can protect it, as well as the world premier of Seismic Shift, a new work by acclaimed Melbourne-based composer, Caerwen Martin.

The Otway Basin is once again threatened with seismic blasting in search of fossil fuel reserves. Come and witness the unique beauty of the Southern Ocean’s precious ecosystems and the stunning biodiversity that stands to be lost if this project is approved.

Blasting operations cause catastrophic disruption to marine ecosystems and food webs, affecting all manner of marine life, from large mammals to the minute crustaceans and zooplankton on which they depend. The proposed project operated by TGS on behalf of US energy giant Schlumberger would take place across multiple marine parks which are precious havens for already threatened species including the southern right whale, pygmy blue whale and Australian sea lion.

A swell of grassroots campaigns in coastal communities across Victoria has succeeded in delaying government approval for this project.

Let’s bring the tide to Melbourne and take this unconscionable destruction off the table for good!
