How We Belong – The Gesture That Speaks

Celebrate Cultural Diversity Week with a screening of the 1st in a 3 part documentary series sharing powerful stories of older Chinese migrants living in Merri-bek.

When Mr Zhang and Mrs Gao move to Merri-bek to care for their granddaughters, they step into a world full of challenges and opportunities. Unable to speak English, they struggle to connect and feel at home in their new community. Through the warmth of strangers, the love of family, and the support of their Chinese-language church, they begin to find their place. As they learn English and engage with those around them, a story of resilience, connection, and belonging unfolds.
