COVID-19 Council service changes

Merri-bek City Council services are affected by COVID-19 restriction changes. On this page is a complete list of our services and their opening status.

Changes to specific services

  • The health and safety of our residents and staff is foremost in our service delivery during COVID-19. As such, we have made changes to the way we deliver some of our services and have also had to cancel some services.  Essential support services continue to be provided with additional health and hygiene practices and measures put in place.     

    Home Support services, Personal Support, Respite Support, Delivered Meals and Community Transport will continue, with some adjustments to services.      

    Planned Activity Groups/Social Support Groups  

    Groups are cancelled until further notice, however we are working with residents to provide alternative social connection opportunities and activities that can be done at home.    

    Senior Citizen groups

    Cancelled until further notice. We are working with groups on options for staying connected while staying at home.    

    Delivered meals program

    Additional Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) funding has been provided to provide additional meals to the community during COVID-19.

  • You need to register your pet if they are 3 months or older. This will help you to avoid potential fines and help us reunite you if your pet becomes lost.

    A tag will be posted to you once your registration is processed. Please allow 2 weeks for your tag to be posted.

  • Our breastfeeding support at our Coburg and Merlynston Maternal and Child Health Centres will continue but only a restricted number of clients will be allowed, and only mums and babies can attend.

    Sessions will now be by appointment only. To book an appointment call us on 9240 1111 and select 2.

    Appointments are available for:

    • Merlynston (Bain Reserve, Merlyn Street, Coburg North) on Mondays between 9am and 3pm
    • Coburg (Coburg Children's Centre, 1 Wardens Walk, Coburg) on Wednesdays between 9am and 3pm

  • All face-to-face Citizenship Ceremonies have been postponed.

  • The Counihan Gallery will reopen at 11am on Saturday 13 November with COVIDSafe measures in place.

  • The Coburg Customer Service Centre (Moreland Civic Centre) and the Brunswick Customer Service Centre are both open for customer service. You can see the opening hours for this customer service centre on our Contact us page.

    Glenroy customer service centre is closed. This centre is being relocated to the new Glenroy Community Hub and will reopen in March 2022.

  • Most Council-run community meetings and information sessions have been cancelled, or consultation is being conducted in a different way.

    Advice about specific meetings and sessions will be provided to relevant participants.

    Event permits for outdoor spaces have been suspended.

  • Our Family Day Care service is still operating. You can find out more about this service on our Child care page.

    If you require child care or are interested in becoming a home based educator call 9240 2300.

  • All Council-managed venues have reopened for use. All venues are subject to the density limit of one person per 4 sqm.

    All hirers and guests (over 16 years old) attending a Council-managed venue must be fully vaccinated. In order to confirm your hall hire booking, you must provide us with your proof of vaccination, your COVIDSafe plan, and COVID check-in marshal declaration.   • Our Council-run immunisation services are still running and appointments must be made before you can attend. You can find out more about these services on our Immunisation page.

    Masks must be worn in all immunisation facilities.

  • Our Merri-bek libraries are open. You will need to be fully vaccinated and wear a mask to visit one of our libraries. You can find out more about our libraries and their opening hours on our Visit or contact us at the library page.

    However, our opening hours and capacity limits may change due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the ever-changing environment we are dealing with.

    We are seeing a number of our staff needing to stay away from Merri-bek City Libraries due to isolation requirements. The personal safety of our staff and customers is essential, therefore we are adapting daily to ensure everyone is safe upon entering our libraries.

    We are working tirelessly to ensure the community has access to enjoy our wonderful facilities. We ask that you continue to respect our staff, as they are also impacted and adjusting to this changing environment.

    We are running click and collect services at all our libraries until we fully reopen. More information about click and collect is on our Library services during restrictions page.

    Online library services will continue to be available including ebooks and audiobooks. You can find out more about online library services on our eLibrary page.

    We will gradually be reintroducing our in-person programs. The details for these programs are on our Library activities and events page.

  • Our Brunswick Baths Outdoor pool and outdoor training, Coburg Leisure Centre and Fawkner Leisure Centre and Oak Park Sports and Aquatic Centre Outdoor pool and outdoor training are open. Bookings are not required to visit these centres.

    Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the ever-changing environment, we are dealing with, our opening hours and capacity limits of our pools may change. We are seeing a number of our staff needing to stay away from our centres due to isolation requirements.

    The personal safety of our staff and customers is essential, therefore we are adapting daily to capacity limits to ensure each patron is well supervised and safe upon entering our pools.

    Currently, all Active Merri-bek sites are operating a majority of services to our normal hours and capacities.

    We are working tirelessly to ensure the community has access to enjoy our wonderful facilities. We ask that members and guests continue to respect our staff, as they are also impacted and adjusting to this changing environment.

  • Please note: Our Maternal and Child Health service is supporting the public health Code Brown Response for an initial 6-week period from Friday 28 January to Friday 11 March 2022. Due to this, we may apply so changes to our appointments during this time. You will be notified if your appointment is going to be impacted.

    If you or your child is not well, please reschedule your appointment. If you attend and your child or you have signs of being unwell we cannot do the consult and will request that you reschedule your appointment. A surgical face mask is to be worn by all people over the age of 12 and we will provide you with one if you don’t have one. 

    You will be asked to scan a QR code prior to entry of the building for contact tracing purposes.

    Our New Parent groups and Sleep and Settling training will remain online until further restrictions are eased.

  • Our playgrounds and outdoor skateparks are open to children of all ages. There is no limit to the number of adults that can accompany a child.

  • Oxygen Youth Space will be closed from Thursday 5th August until further notice.

    The Merri-bek Youth team is available online and over the phone for all youth support. To speak to us you can call 9389 8645, email oxygen@moreland.vic.gov.au or visit our Merri-bek Youth Facebook page.

  • Parking officers are once again enforcing all parking restrictions. Please check the signs, comply with the Victorian road rules and display a valid permit in permit areas to avoid fines.

  • Our Supported Playgroups are currently operating online.

  • Primary School Holiday programs are still operating.

  • If you have sharps, needles or syringes that you would normally bring to our Customer Service Centres, you can now take them to Merri Health located at 93 Bell Street, Coburg.

  • If you are fully vaccinated, you can attend sporting and recreation facilities (e.g. sports grounds, gyms and swimming pools) and sporting events.

    If you don’t meet the vaccination requirements, you can’t enter.

    Vaccination requirements don’t apply to people involved in community sport (e.g. a local footy match) or people using swimming pools for essential medical care like hydrotherapy.

  • Our waste and bin collection and recycling services are still in operation and are running as normal.
